ADVENT WREATH
ADVENT WREATH

The Advent Wreath

This Sunday the Advent Wreath is displayed in front of the altar. The Advent Wreath consists of five candles, 3 Purple, 1 Rose and 1 White.  The four candles of the Advent Wreath represents the four weeks of Advent. Three candles are purple in colour, a reminder of the spirit of penance and prayer that mark the season. One candle is rose for Gaudete Sunday (third Sunday of Advent) which calls us to “Rejoice in the Lord always”.  Finally the White Candle is lit on Christmas Morning – the birth of Christ, the light of the world. The round wreath symbolizes the eternity of God and the evergreen branches, a reminder of the eternal life of God in Christ.
