Family Mass

The family Mass Group is responsible for organising Readers, Gift bearers and the Children's Ministry at the Sunday 10:30 Family Mass and for preparing the Prayers of the Faithful. A list of Readers and Offertory Gift Bearers is given to the celebrant before Mass.

Parents of children attending national schools in the St. Fintan's parish area are invited to volunteer as readers and gift bearers at the Sunday 10:30 Family Mass by way of invitation slips issued courtesy of the schools.

When the signed invitation slips are returned a draft rota is drawn up and circulated to all who volunteered by email to allow them to see if there should be any dates conflicting with their family plans. They are requested to respond within one week. Then the rota is updated, as required, and re-issued by email.

The reading format is that a parent reads the 1st Reading and the child reads the Prayers of the Faithful. The family may opt to come early, maybe ten minutes before Mass and is do a practice reading from the Altar.

The 1st Reading and the Prayers of the Faithful are sent to the relevant family, by email, as early as possible in the week so that the child has time to practise the Prayers of the Faithful. The family scheduled to bring up the gifts are also contacted to ensure that they are still available.

Children's Ministry

The Children's Ministry was set up so that children between the ages of 3 and 6 years old could benefit from suitable basic religious education, provided by a dedicated team of mothers. A minimum of two mothers are required to be in attendance.

The name of the Children's Ministry leader, for that Sunday, is provided to the celebrant before Mass. Before the Mass starts the Children's Ministry leader takes a front row seat and when the Mass starts the celebrant asks the Children's Ministry leader to lead the 3 to 6 year olds to the family room for their special time of suitable religious related activities. The children are returned to their parents after the homily.
