Howth-Sutton Transition Year Programme enjoys a ninth successful year

"Very enjoyable experience!" - "It got me more involved in the community" - "Good fun!"

These are just some of the comments from the Transition year students who have completed the Howth/Sutton TY Programme for 2015/2016. The programme was running for its ninth year and attracted 34 students from 7 different secondary schools.

The programme aims to develop leadership in the young people around two principle concepts: personal growth and responsibility, and community project involvement.

The half day, once a month, group sessions focus on well-tailored engagements around physical, dietary, spriitual and mental health issues, together with devoted sessions on creative thinking and community awareness.

On the commuity project front, the students proactively engage in the annual Christmas Party and Spring Bingo Night with the residents in the HSE managed Kilrock House in Howth as well as being an active part of the carol singing at the annual lighting of the Howth Christmas Tree.

The programme is jointly sponsored by Howth and Sutton parishes, and plans are underway to celebrate the 10th year of the programme in 2016/2017.
