“There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, and one God who is Father of all, over all, through all and within all” (Eph. 4:6)
Welcome to the Sacrament of Baptism
The birth of a child is a very special and joyous occasion for parents.
Here in the Parish of St. Fintan, Sutton, we are very glad to share this joy and warmly encourage your wish to have your child baptised and received into the Catholic Church. -Baptism is just the first step of becoming a full member of the Church. In due course, parents will hopefully present their child for First Communion and Confirmation.
Parents are the first and most important teachers of their child’s faith.
As parents, you are asking to have your child baptised. You are accepting the responsibility of bringing up your child in the Catholic faith.
BAPTISM IN THE PARISH OF ST. FINTAN, SUTTON -
-
- Baptisms are held in St. Fintan’s Church on the first Sunday of the month at 12:45p.m. and third Saturday at 12:00 noon
- You will need to complete an Application Form and return it to the Parish Office. You can download and print an Application Form for Baptism here- BaptismForm 2010
- A Baptism preparation meeting takes place on the Fourth Monday of each month and therefore, SIX WEEKS notice is required for baptism. This means that every family has time to attend a meeting. At this meeting you will meet members of the Parish Baptism Team who will be only too glad to help you prepare in the best way possible for your child’s baptism.
-
- We also suggest that you spend some time thinking about your choice of godparents. The role of godparents is to support parents in bringing up their child in the Catholic faith. Godprents should be at least sixteen years of age and be baptised and confirmed.
-On the Day of Baptism: Remember to bring along…
Baptismal Shawl:
The Baptismal Shawl symbolises our new life in Christ and being embraced by God’s Love.
Baptismal Candle:
The Baptismal Candle is lit from the Paschal candle, which is a sign of the Risen Christ. The Baptismal Candle also symbolises the living presence of Christ in your child.
